Banquet Dinner for participants of the NADC School

CUPE locals #105 and #2052 have combined with NADC to host a banquet dinner. It will be Thursday Feb. 27th in the BC room at 7:00 p.m. or as closely after the AGM as possible. We have the numbers from the conflict resolution, Steward learning series and the Mental Health issues course and we are at 43 so far. If you are attending the Parliamentary Procedures and haven’t been counted yet please contact any of the NADC Exec or txt 250-614-6532 with your name and if you are coming.

Spring School for NADC is underway in Prince Rupert

This week will see 45 Union Activist’s from northern BC in Prince Rupert for training in a wide variety of subjects such as stewarding, workplace stress, conflict resolution and others. There will be 10 CUPE staff and instructors providing the sessions. It is estimated between hotel rooms, meals, facility rentals and incidentals that over $100,000 ( earlier estimates were lower but didn’t factor in all the hotel rooms ) will be spent in Price Rupert by the end of classes.

NADC – Scholarship Committee . Call for members

The Northern Area District Council (NADC) Executive has decided to re-examine the NADC scholarship process; as such, it will not be possible to award the scholarship this coming NADC school.

The intention is to have the scholarship committee elected (three positions) at the February NADC general meeting and put them to work immediately so a scholarship can be awarded before the 2014 university/college school year begins. Information about the criteria with a June 1st, 2014 deadline will be placed on the NADC website.

If you are interested in letting your name stand for the scholarship committee, please put your name forward at the Thursday, February 27th NADC general meeting. If you are unable to attend  the meeting, please send an e-mail to the Recording Secretary, Caroline Sewell ( prior to the meeting.

Travel Grant form for 2014 Spring NADC has been posten

The required travel grant form for the 2014 Spring NADC school in Prince Rupert has been posted to the website under the documents section. Something being strictly enforced this year is the completed form and all supporting paperwork must be submitted by the cut-off date of  February 10th, 2014. NADC approves a $1,600 donation to locked out CUPE L#389

At the General Membership meeting for Northern Area District Council (NADC) a motion was passed to donate $1,600 to the locked out CUPE workers of L#389 North Shore Winter (NSWC). As Ian Norton was heading to the local the executive acted fast and a cheque was readied in record time.

2013 Fall NADC School in PG is complete

The 2013 Fall NADC School was held in Prince George. Approximately 50 people attended a variety of sessions such as labour law, bullying and harassment, social media and the Steward Learning Series.

The General Membership meeting was held Thursday afternoon as has been the recent practice to enable a greater chance of having quorum.

After the meeting attendees, facilitators an CUPE Servicing Reps were provided with an excellent meal. Following was an event that saw some great prizes presented to those most knowledgeable about CUPE trivia.
